Research Interests
Food web structure in lakes, focusing on responses of plankton, plants and attached algae to anthropogenic and natural perturbations including eutrophication and toxic algae blooms, unnatural variation in water levels, climate cycles and tropical cyclones. Dr. Havens maintains collaborative research with scientists in Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Japan, and the Netherlands.

B.A. Biology, State University of New York at Buffalo, M.S. and Ph.D. Biology, West Virginia University. Founding Editor of the Freshwater Systems domain of The ScientificWorld Journal, Associate Editor of Environmental Pollution, Scientific Advisory Board member for the Korean Society of Limnology, recipient of the Edward Deevy Award for contribution to the scientific understanding of Florida lakes, appointed member of Florida Oceans Council, and Professor and Chair of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences at University of Florida.
